I was watching a snowy egret casually snatching minnows from the surf when I heard the “osprey alarm call.” Ospreys in my neck of the woods make a very specific sound when an eagle enters their zone so I knew that an eagle would appear in a matter of seconds. I quickly scanned the skies and saw the Osprey who sounded the alarm. It had a large fish and the bird was frantically trying to get out of the area as fast as possible but the eagle was already on its tail. The Osprey tried a few evasive maneuvers but it knew its best chance at survival was to drop its catch and move on. This is exactly what the eagle wanted as it swooped in to grab the fish in midair. Thieves, bottom feeders and kleptoparasites are everywhere and they will always prey on others because it’s easier than doing the hard work themselves.
