In this DIY, we replace spark plugs, ignition coils, valve cover gaskets, and an evaporative purge valve on a 2000 BMW E39 M5.

Spark plugs should be replaced every ~50,000 miles. Coils can be replaced preventatively or when misfires occur with healthy plugs. Valve cover gaskets should be replaced at the first sign of any leaking/seeping where the valve cover and cylinder head meet. Code 'E8' points to the evaporative purge valve.
