It’s an amazing art form and Alex is the person who coined the term ‘Algorave’, and created TidalCycles, a free program for live coding, and is a great advocate for the art form.

#livecoding #algorave #tidalcyclesWays to program drums, but keep it satisfying: Tubbutec 6m0d6 Demo (TR-606 clone!)mylarmelodies2024-04-17 | This is a blend of: A 606 clone eurorack module demo (the LPZW/@tubbutec 6m0d6), and a tutorial - laced with tips and tricks - exploring three increasingly weird ways to trigger and modulate (drum) modules in general - using Gate & CV, Trigger Riot, and sneaky tricks in Ableton Live & MIDI. The overall theme is: Keeping the results “musical” and satisfying.
We'll also make a generative sequencer with the Mutable instruments stages and use it to control the excellent Doepfer A-111-6. We'll drive it with the Music Thing Mini Drive. We'll turn the Tiptop Audio Trigger Riot into a modulation sequencer. We'll then use Ableton Live and we'll absolutely smash this thing to bits with some simple but very interesting methods to get completely wild patterns, that would take a LOT of modules to do in analog-land.
One thing I forgot to show/demo! It responds to dynamic triggers (eg gates of differing heights) which is very cool - here’s a new video Tubbutec did that covers this: youtu.be/XX-1OImcIXg?si=CwmQJDaR7LixtWpH

#delay #eurorackAcid Techno Jam 5000 MILES APART IN REAL TIMEmylarmelodies2023-11-15 | Here's a proof-of-concept jam/hangout I had with @thelastdoreo...when we were 5000 MILES apart. But this test proved, we could play in tight sync. How?! So this was done with free software called #Ninjam... EXPLAINER BELOW!! 👇
Ninjam is a free plugin which sends audio on a roundtrip, in realtime, between two or more people. The trick to defeating latency it turns out, is to introduce a LOT of it. In fact, it introduces a reliable and long 1+ bar latency so that if you can start your gear in time with the software, it'll maintain the timing relationship for your session reliably due to the long delay.
The REALLY weird thing is that you are not in fact hearing the same mix as each other, since you must hear your own music overlaid over the other person's with a different timing offset. You each hear your music overlaid over each other's music differently. Yet for continuous grooves etc like this, it still works, you never realise it. As you can hear us discuss, it's helpful to respect the '1' downbeat in Ninjam/Jamtaba to help make the offset as similar for every player.
In this jam, I'm in the UK playing the Roland T8 (plus Eventide H90 FX & some modular noises!) into Ableton Live with Jamtaba client, and @thelastdoreo in the USA plays Modular + Digitakt for drums, using Reaper and Ninjam, and is hosting the server privately. In fact my T-8 isn't actually sync'd to Live, I manually stop start it at the beginning of the video to get the timing spot on.
This was the first time we'd used Ninjam. We're going to learn more about the nuances of doing this and then I'll make a tutorial to explain the technique, for now, hope you enjoy the jam session as much as we did and if you have any tips on using Ninjam please share them!

TRANSPARENCY NOTES: WHY DOES THIS VIDEO EXIST? Plum Audio commissioned me to make a demo video of their new filter, ADVA. This means they sent modules to use as well as paying me back for the several days of time and effort to research, set up, shoot and edit the video, and I do my best to show and explain what I think is interesting/unique about it, to help find people who have been looking for something like this, and so help them keep making more cool modules (and help in some small way to maintaining Eurorack as a viable market so we ALL get more cool things!!). This is a demo video, a demonstration of sound and capabilities, not a review, where it is assumed you accept the opinion of a third party. Use its truthful depiction of the features and capabilities, along with other research, to form your own opinion as to whether the product has value for you, taking its cost into consideration. Let it be known that you are only seeing this video because the author is confident he can recommend it. Unless expressly noted otherwise, I only create videos about products I would be happy to recommend to friends, because videos ARE me recommending products to my friends! If you have specific questions about the product not covered by the video, please feel free to ask. SECRET BONUS VIDEO So I actually recorded and edited a 21 minute video with me talking through the various function blocks on the MIniFreak, but since there is so much to this synth, I decided to totally scrap that approach and just edit all the noises and jams I came up with together into this, and let other videos I'm in (see below - also see Arturia's own tutorial series with Matt Pike which is great) actually explain it. It's a deep machine so I'll let it speak for itself.

This approach, and the subsequent cyclic phasing it creates makes for stepped voltages that are that bit more “human” than random. So file it away and use it in your modular patchez, yeah? I have!

visuals are ALSO being jammed, using the immense @SleepyCircuits hypno video synth (you can see me driving it in the corners) which is providing the psychedelic patterns (it's an all-in-one video synth with MIDI and CV control and is amazing). watch carefully and I'm pushing keys on the Arturia MicroLab in order to MIDI recall visual presets I've pre-designed on Hypno, then I'm using controls to jam the look in realtime to the music - so it's sort of like I'm my own visuals guy, but I had to do the jam first. the visuals aren't sync'd to the music but they can be.
