This video shows highlights from a day following my friend Dave W. at the dynomometer at Pro Car Associates in Akron, Ohio. After 13 years and a broken valve spring, Dave pulled the diesel based small block Olds out of his 1964 F-85 post coupe race car to be freshened up. It is based on an Oldsmobile 350D diesel block (an early production 1978-1979 diesel block with the standard size lifter bores). All diesel Olds blocks have the larger big block based 3.00" main bearing journal size, rather than the gas small block's 2.50" mains. The crank is a forged steel 425 Olds crank with the rod journals cut down to 2.20" and the stroke slightly increased to 4.000". With 6.00" BBC rods and custom pistons for the 4.250" bore, it becomes a 454 cubic inch small block. The heads are ported Edelbrock aluminum Olds heads. The compression is around 13:1, and the camshaft is somewhere in the ballpark of 278° @0.050" duration and over 0.800" lift. 9 pulls were made in total. I apologize for not having more info, but remember, this was NOT my engine, so I was a guest at the dyno session, and I'm only sharing what info Dave was comfortable sharing.
