Jia Xu wants to imagine how Wan Castle would have gone if Dian Wei wasn't there to protect Cao Cao and you were instead. This leads to them not having to have Dian Wei in the game and having Cao Ang hold off all the enemies instead. You can actually rescue him but you have to know to stick by him the whole time basically and I did not, instead I was trying to take over bases that have about 3x as much HP as they normally would.
They say Dian Wei died in this battle, but they don't specify what time frame this gathering is taking place in. I guess it could be in the afterlife, or maybe in the WO world. It's pretty much the only thing that makes sense, especially when Sima Yi starts talking about Jin battles HE wasn't even alive for. Though I suspect it's just a "shut up, don't question it" situation.
