This is the second story, where we play as Cao Cao. We've got a bit bigger of an army to work with. During the battle selection phase, we can use Stratagems, which are basically the cards you could pick in DW6 Empires. Obviously they have different effects here, but its the same concept. And just like DW6E, some are really good and some are just outright terrible. Wu has a bad case of being full of bad stratagems, but the Wei and Shu officers have plenty of good ones.
Generally what you want to do is just keep stacking attack boosts, or possibly defense boosts. Speaking of defense, the health is handled differently in this game. There's no health bar, instead, low health is indicated by the edges of the screen going red and getting cracked. It regenerates over time, so you don't have to worry about going off to find healing as much, but your health is generally pretty low so you can't take too many hits. You can also hear the character start panting when at low health.
Some other strategies increase your army's stats and they sound useless, but I find that they generally make them quite effective off screen if their attack is increased a lot. But then some are just like "increase your movement speed" which doesn't matter when you can just call a horse to your side.
By the way, you unlock mini-games you can play in Gala Mode. I don't know why it's called Gala Mode... But anyways, getting a good score on those unlocks items. Two you really want are Hex Mark from the Steeple Chase mini-game and Wind Scroll from the...2nd one, where you fight a lot of dudes, I forgot the name. Then there's an arrow one you get Musou Armor and a calligraphy one you get Way of Musou from. Hex Mark is the quickest saddle you can get so yo uwant it just for that, and hey, +20 Lck from just having it is nice. Wind Scroll is one of the best items period for any moveset that doesn't primarily use projectiles.
