The level became a tad easier since you spawn at the base where Cao Cao and his other officers are. All you have to do is push down from the center and fight your way to Sun Jian before Gan Ning shows up. If you want to stop enemy troops from coming, there are gate captains and their guards. Take them down, and they’ll stop coming. Also, make sure to pick up their defense +1 drop as well.
