"Gone Too Soon"
I was writing a song about dying, when I noticed that everyone who writes or sings about death, dies ... and usually tragically.
Michael Jackson was an American singer/songwriter, and is regarded as one of the most significant cultural figures of the 20th century.
Jackson sang about the undead (Thriller), gang wars (Bad) and murder (Smooth Criminal).
In 1983, Jackson saw Dionne Warwick perform Gone Too Soon, dedicated to Buddy Holly, Jimi Hendrix and other musicians who died young. He included the song on his 1993 album Dangerous and dedicated it to his friend Ryan White (a hemophiliac who died of HIV from contaminated blood).
Michael Jackson died on June 25, 2009, after suffering a cardiac arrest. Usher sang Gone Too Soon at the memorial service.
Side Note: I quickly reworked the theme of my tune to be about returning home through space and time (totally not dying). I then dropped the lyrics and turned the melody into a guitar instrumental. That should be safe (youtu.be/1FuUKGrjEGY)!
