Windmills come in all sizes and forms. But none of them are so iconic as the ones that cover the Dutch country side. In The Netherlands windmills have been used for centuries in a wide range of industrial tasks including, but not limited to, grinding grain for “Jenever” (Dutch gin) and - most importantly - to build dykes, other fortifications and create new land by draining lakes and swamps.

The windmills near the “Zaanse schans” are one of the most visited mills in The Netherlands. Other popular windmills spots include “Kinderdijk” and the ones in the city of Schiedam. With over a thousand of windmills across the flat country side you have a big chance to run into one.

The footage in this clip was filmed with a DJI Inspire drone on a sunny afternoon.
