Room for Discussion | Dutch Bookkeeper Bluntness: Fair or Not? @RoomforDiscussionUva | Uploaded May 2020 | Updated October 2024, 16 hours ago.
In these times of tough economic decisions, the Dutch willingness to spring unconditionally to the help of its EU allies is being tested. We spoke with prominent Professor Arnoud Boot to discuss the role of the Dutch government in fighting the economic effects of the Corona Crisis. Mr Boot is a prominent professor of Corporate Finance and Financial Markets at the UvA, former Chairman of the Bank Council of the Dutch Central Bank and Chairman of the European Finance Association (EFA). He has been an outspoken critic on the Dutch government's rigid stance on providing financial aid to Italy and other Southern European countries, describing their obstruction as counterproductive. In the interview, we talk about the contrasting opinions on the Dutch stance on a European rescue package, why the Dutch government took the position it did and the practical implications of the now agreed € 500 billion lifeline deal.
This interview is part of a podcast series with Uva Radio. All the interviews can also be found on their website (https://uvaradio.nl/tag/news-politics/), Soundcloud (soundcloud.com/uvaradio/sets/room-for-discussion), Spotify and on Apple Podcasts.
