Duskfade is a game that I've been looking forward to for a long time. It's inspirations are Jak and Daxert with Kingdom Hearts. I love Jak and Daxter. Hell, I'll love any collectathon. Duskfade though leave me with mixed feelings.
It leans heavier into combat than Jak and Daxter. The only Kingdom Hearts inspiration here is in it's visuals. The combat feels like an afterthough. At least on the hardest difficulty it does. Dodge rolls are slow, the screen is filled with constant attacks and projectiles, bosses have weird attacks. Oh man do I have an issue with the boss fights
You'll notice that the majority of bosses are a perfect no damage runs. Those boss fights were the worst experience in getting perfect fights. It feels like the embodiment of "random bullshit go". Bosses were taking to long to no damage and I had to respect my time and said forget it. I was not that invested in the game and I got other stuff to get to.
The collecting is real fun but sometimes is hindered by the platforming. A lot of platforms have this weird magnetic pull on the player. Sometimes when I would try to roll jump for speed in distance I would get held back because I was jumping real close from the edge of a platform. It led to me falling into pits numerous times. I think they are addressing some platform stuff which is good cause it sucked the fun out of me by the end.
00:00 Wrath
06:25 Guayata
16:47 Sadness
24:37 Watcher
35:18 Guilt
42:26 Father Gaoth
58:31 Solitude
1:05:07 Anchored Wilhelm
1:17:00 Despair
1:22:21 Allira's Despair
1:29:00 Escape Sequence
