The Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad is a 45-mile 3-foot gauge tourist railroad in southwest Colorado. The railroad runs on the former Denver and Rio Grande Western’s Silverton Branch. Every year, the D&SNGRR hosts a pair of photo events, one in the winter, and one in the fall.
In February 2025, the D&SNGRR hosted their annual Winter Photographers Special. This year’s event was special as it was a tribute to the D&RGW K-36 Class Mikados’ 100th Anniversary. The event would take place over the weekend of February 22nd, and 23rd. The 22nd would feature 482 pulling flanger OF from Durango to Needleton and return. The 23rd would feature 482 on a freight train from Durango to Goblin Fire and return.

In 2023, after spending nearly 10 years establishing its presence in the photo charter market, Dynamo Productions hosted a day-long event with the @EastBroadTopRailroad, revered as a time capsule of the moment it ended freight service in 1956. This, coupled with the reintroduction of locomotive No. 16, made the railroad a holy ground for photo events — it hosted close to a dozen from various operators last year. How does the conversation between a railroad and an operator start? What variables and challenges are there? Where lies the balance between railroading and period props, automobiles and actors? And what sets Dynamo Productions apart from others?

Featuring Alaska Railroad 4-6-0 152 in Flint, MI. This 1920 Baldwin Ten-Wheeler was built for the US Army. The engine arrived at the Huckleberry Railroad in 1975 as their first regular steam locomotive. The 152 has operated often on the railroad since then, most recently fully rebuilt and restored to its Army paint and number in 2018.
Built on four miles of former Pere Marquette right of way, the Huckleberry Railroad operates as part of Genesee Park.")

The Cedar Point & Lake Erie Railroad operates as part of the Cedar Point Amusement Park in Sandusky, Ohio. The CP&LE opened in 1963 and celebrates its 60th anniversary this season. Ride and follow along this theme park mainstay, with some of the worlds top roller coasters in sight.
Cedar Point & Lake Erie operates four different steam locomotives, all former industrial tank engines converted to 2-4-0 wheel arrangement. The 22, Myron H, is the locomotive featured in this video, a 1922-built Vulcan engine first operated for the Wayne Coal Company in Ohio. The engine arrived at CP&LE in 1963, and has been a mainstay of the railroad since the 1990s.

Steam returns to the Walkersville Southern Railroad of Walkersville, Maryland. Beginning operations in 1991, this tourist operation runs on four miles of former Pennsylvania Railroad line towards Frederick. This all volunteer railroad has made considerable efforts over the years, having rebuilt the line south across the Monocacy River, and has even rebuilt trackage north.
Jeddo Coal Company 0-4-0T 85 makes its first post-pandemic runs for three weekends of trips. This Vulcan tank engine is one of several engines operated by the Gramlings, and is trucked to various tourist railroads around the country for specials and events. The 85 put on a great show on the railroads regular tourist trains as well as a special photo freight to commemorate the Walkersville Southerns 30th anniversary.
