I complain a lot but I had a ton of fun with this action-RPG! The overly negative reaction at the time was probably due more to a poor release with lots of glitches/missing features but the Collector's Edition a year later fixes most of that. The character/level progression is great and introduces old wizardry style features like critical strike. There are so many styles of character to play as I wish more RPGs were this thourough in class diversity and magic styles.
Also, I found out why I couldn't reach the Custard Mansion. One of the dozens of identical doors is actually a door that leads to the city jail. If we bail out a criminal there we get a special password to reach the slums district and voila we find the mansion. Oof.
