A number of roads have been closed in the South Island while most Cook Strait ferry sailings have been cancelled due to forecast high winds and large swells.
Police are asking people in Dunedin to avoid travelling unless absolutely necessary due to snow fall and icy roads. They have received a number of reports of crashes across the city with some vehicles sliding off the road.
