Exploring relationships, motivations and culture behind pacing and guiding elite-level runners.
Duncan Perrillat is one of France’s top runners. But beyond the podium, he’s found purpose in guiding. Four years ago, he responded to an Instagram post from Maxime, a visually impaired runner looking for someone to guide him through a half marathon. Duncan answered the call and formed a lasting friendship. In 2023, fresh off winning a half marathon, Duncan laced up again just two hours later to guide Maxime through a 10K, crossing the line side by side.
For Duncan, guiding isn’t just about the run—it’s about opening doors. He’s now a passionate advocate for helping young visually impaired athletes get the support they need to train, compete, and thrive.
