Join me on this walk as we explore Painitan and the Public Market of Dumaguete City. A visit to Dumaguete City, located in the province of Negros Oriental, Philippines, would be incomplete without experiencing this unique local tradition. As early as four o'clock in the morning, Painitan stalls in the public market are already open, ready to serve people eager to start their day with a hearty meal. Painitan stalls are easy to find, as they are usually lined up along the sides of the market. The "bangko," or benches, of these open-air eateries are often filled with vendors, peddlers, buyers, locals, and tourists alike. A warm sense of welcome is immediately felt as vendors greet you with friendly smiles. Whether it's casual small talk or lengthy conversations, engaging with others is part of the experience while enjoying your meal.
