Duke Divinity School will hold an online service of prayer in celebration of "Juneteenth," the celebration commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. The term Juneteenth comes from the date June 19, 1865, when enslaved Africans in Galveston, Texas, found out that they were free a full two-and-a-half years after the Emancipation Proclamation became official.
All are welcome to the online service, which is being coordinated by the school's Office of Black Church Studies in collaboration with the Office of the Chaplain.
