In this video, we demonstrate the innovative DualCompression hindfoot nail, an advanced solution for achieving stable fixation and reliable fusion in complex hindfoot arthrodesis procedures.
Designed for use in ankle fusion surgery and subtalar fusion technique, this implant delivers controlled compression across joints while enhancing overall construct stability.

The DualCompression hindfoot nail utilizes a unique dual compression mechanism that allows surgeons to sequentially compress the fusion site. As shown in this demonstration, initial fixation is achieved with a distal calcaneal screw and proximal tibial screw. Once in place, a T-handle is used to tension the internal system, activating the dual compression mechanism.

As tension is applied, the internal cable system pulls a distal slider into position, creating progressive compression across the joint. Once maximal mechanical compression is achieved, the system transitions to a secondary phase where a nitenol compression mechanism continues to apply dynamic compression. This ensures sustained pressure across the fusion site, which is critical for promoting bone healing and successful hindfoot fusion nail outcomes.

After the compression sequence is complete, an additional posterior-to-anterior calcaneal screw is placed to lock the distal slider and maintain the achieved compression. This step provides long-term stability, preventing loss of fixation over time. Optional fixation elements, including a talar screw and an additional proximal tibial screw, can be used to further enhance rotational stability hindfoot nail constructs and reinforce the overall fixation.

The intramedullary nail foot ankle design allows for strong internal support while minimizing external hardware, making it particularly useful in complex cases requiring ankle and hindfoot stabilization. This approach is commonly used in cases of deformity, arthritis, or trauma where reliable fusion is required.

One of the key advantages of the DualCompression hindfoot nail is its ability to provide continuous compression throughout the healing process. This dual-phase compression not only improves initial fixation but also supports long-term fusion success, making it a valuable tool in modern orthopedic foot and ankle surgery.

This video is ideal for orthopedic surgeons, residents, and healthcare professionals seeking to understand advanced intramedullary fusion nail techniques and improve outcomes in complex hindfoot procedures.
