First concept model of a dual Quonset Hut below-grade "pole barn". The large arch is a Q40--20, 50' long (40' span). The smaller entrance arch is a Q20-10, 20' long (20' span). The steel Quonset arches are only used for forms and will be removed after the shotcrete is applied walls/roof. They are connected by reinforced concrete block end walls and built below grade with 5' of earth on top of the crown of the large arch. Both set on a monolithic reinforced concrete floor with footing drainage and 4" - 6" thick reinforced concrete walls/roof. Waterproofing and XPS foam insulation on the outside before burial. *this structure is a concept only, and has not yet been approved by a structural engineer.*
December 31 2020 update: The steel for both arches has been ordered and paid for to beat a 15% price increase that took effect for 2021.
December 31, 2021 update: The quonset was delivered, some land cleared, but several things happened in 2021 that have delayed the project.
