Most people who try dual mono compression reach for it in the exact place where it can quietly pull their mix off center. In this video I break down the real difference between stereo and dual mono compression, show you where dual mono genuinely helps your mix, and where it quietly hurts it.
You'll also see how I use dual mono on my rear bus channel for parallel compression, and why that's where it really earns its place in a mix.
If you're a Cubase user and don't have a compressor with a built-in dual mono mode, I'll also show you a native Cubase method for pulling this off with any compressor plugin you already own.
Throughout the video I'm using BusRide, my own mix bus plugin, which has both stereo and dual mono compression built in.
