Chasing Waterfalls in Siem Reap, Cambodia | Swimming with Local Kids | Unguided Nations Phnom Kulen Unguided Nations 2019-02-16 | I’ve been a bit lax on getting this one out. Siem Reap, Cambodia was possibly my favorite place I’ve ever been to on Earth and for some reason that made me feel very precious about how I made videos about it. Like I was scared to not do it justice. The people, the vibe, the culture, its really hard to capture that in a video with my dumb face over most of it. But I hope I did it some good here. I took a day trip to Phnom Kulen, which I would say was as fun, if not more fun, than the Angkor Wat and surrounding temples of Siem Reap. The trouble with Phnom Kulen is that it is about 1.5 hours outside of town by car, and there is a one way road to the top of the falls. Everyday, it is only uphill traffic from 8 AM until Noon, and then from Noon to close it is only downhill traffic. Crazy, right? It’ll set you back $20 a person, and about $60 for the car ride for the day. But as I hope I show here, it is so worth it. One of the best days of my life. Break a Creative Block! LEAVE THE CAMERA AT HOME | Shooting Only w/ iPhone XR | #onecamerachallenge Unguided Nations 2019-02-02 | I left everything at home and went out one day with just my phone, and the results surprised me. Anyone who follows professional youtubers, vloggers, or photographers knows that you're ALWAYS being told that THIS is the NEW THING that YOU NEED to buy RIGHT NOW. And its all BS.I'm guilty of it, and I've ended up carrying around a huge bag full of gear I have no real intention of using that day, but I NEED it because its supposed to STEP UP my photos to make them EPIC. Instead, I sit around not wanting to dig through my bag or changing lenses and I start thinking "I don't really want to film this" or "I don't really need that picture".It's crazy. So I went out one day with NO GEAR, and only my phone, and I wanted to see what I could do.The results were awesome, and I'm proud of them. This is by no means my best video, these aren't my best photos (but some of them I do love), and this is by no means the way I'm going to shoot from now on, but it taught me a lesson in weighing myself down mentally and physically and how stifling that can be to creativity.I don't mean to preach, but any hobbyist occasionally goes through an "I need things" phase and breaking that habit can be tough. Try it sometime. Leave stuff at home. Go out with one camera and one lens, or just your phone, and see what you can capture. Thanks for watching! What To Do at Khao San Road Instead of Drinking | Bangkok, Thailand | Traveling Sober Unguided Nations 2019-01-24 | I haven't done a whole lot of what it's like to travel sober, and this certainly isn't a great example. But you can still have a good time without drinking, even on an entire street that's practically made of beer. Thanks to Aludra1978 for the recommendation to check out Bangkok's famous Khao San Road, called "The Center of the Backpacking Universe" in The Beach by Alex Garland. It's where everyone goes to meet, dance, eat and drink. I spent an entire night out and I try to shed a little light on some of the other things you can do on Khao San Road other than knocking back the drinks. Hanging with Tigers in Phuket Unguided Nations 2018-11-26 | Immediately after bungee jumping, I went straight to Tiger Kingdom to unwind with some of the biggest cats in the jungle. I wasn't sure what to expect going in; I know some of these are horrible as far as training and treatment, but it really seemed like everyone at Tiger Kingdom truly cared about the animals. Signs were everywhere saying that employees are there to protect the animals; not the people, and they had zero tolerance for anything that would represent a conflict of interest in the well-being of the cats there. The Craziest Bath Ive Ever Taken - Bathing Elephants in Phuket, Thailand Unguided Nations 2018-11-24 | I’m so enamored with Thailand right now. Today I got to tour Phang Nga and Phuket and it was incredible. I threw in a few drone shots of some of the biggest and most beautiful Buddhist Temples in the area, and then we get into the real meat and potatoes here: I got to bathe with a baby elephant. It was incredible, and this video could have been 45 minutes straight because he was so damn great and one of the best experiences I’ve had so far. I could die happy.Mildly political – read if you want:Also, I discuss the issue of “elephant trekking” a bit at the end, and wanted to elaborate more. I made it very clear I wasn’t going to partake in riding them, as it’s provenly bad. Does it mean I need to protest the institution all together? I think not. These animals were hunted and used for grueling work up to very recent times, so progress is progress. It may not be natural or the best life, but it is a massive improvement from how they were treated like 20 years ago.Lastly, I draw issue with applying first-world viewpoints to third-world developing countries. Again, I celebrate the progress and the direction of a harmonious relationship, and support businesses that abide by the current rules for the safety of animals in their land. Ok. It was commemorating the 45th anniversary of the 1973 Athens Polytechnic Uprising, which was a massive student protest against the military dictatorship. An estimated 40 students died during the uprising, and each year protests are held both to honor that uprising, and to fight for political change throughout Greece.
