Welcome back! Been an arduous 2022 for me. It feels good to get a good PB again this year. Surprisingly on this track of all tracks. I had the random urge to give this a stab on stream a few days ago. Had big help from Braixen, Justin, Sgt and Logan on tips for the shroomspot and ending part of the track, which tends to be the most polarizing part of the track for huge time save or time loss. On that stream I improved my 1:35.955 (my only 1:35 ever set back in February 2011, always being one of my worst tracks that never really clicked) to a 1:35.733. Rapidly in the session I quickly went from struggling to get a second 1:35 to having near 1:34 potential.

I always wanted simply a mid 1:35 and let it stand for myself from how much this track had riddled me. Now we end up to this run that makes me think I should give this a bit more time and change my goal to a 1:34. Prior to this run, in the same session I improved to a 1:35.577 with my fastest pace so far (31.670 - 31.769 - 32.138 being 210ms ahead of this run) but had the worst lap 3. Tried a bit more and landed on this run.

Lap 1 - 31.690

Any 31.6 for an opener with a full wheelie cut is starting to be my average now. On stream a few days ago a full wheelie cut was only producing a mid to high 31.7. I had to rewatch some WR runs to understand the optimal way of getting into the last turn having the full wheelie. The exit of the second turn made my setup for the 3rd turn bad and lost some time. On all 3 laps my drifting double tricks could have been much better.

Lap 2 - 31.958

Average for me with the time invested so far. Twist good drop wheelie lost quite some time (north of 100ms or a tad more) and my alignment out of the first turn was bad. As mentioned, my drifting double trick could have been much better. My shroomspot was the worst part of this lap, but was saved by getting the instawheelie landing on the downward slope. A better shroom and optimal ending still could have made this lap around a high 31.7 or low 31.8.

Lap 3 - 31.778

Honestly quite good for what it was. I played the turn before the shroom conservative as I had failed a few PB paces by drifting into the sand here on prior runs in the session. I got a lucky wheelie cut again on this lap, and kept composed for the ending. However, I got an unlucky bounce at nearly the exact time my miniturbo was fully charged. This is the biggest time loss in the run, and I am sure if this run was corrected in Dolphin it would have been a mid to high 1:35.1.

I could have compared this run to my previous PB holding my fastest actual pace, but I felt it'd be cooler and more interesting to compare to a faster run than mine to demonstrate just how fast of a pace I was before the final MT. The run compared is Doom's 1:35.114 WR from 2011. I was not going to beat the run due to when I actually started my final drift, but was still clear for a mid to high 1:35.1 by my estimation. I always loved Doom's runs here and a lot of my conceptual driving mimics a lot of his.

A combination of my best laps (wheelie cut and non-wheelie cut) do give a 1:34 now. My best wheelie cut overall is a 31.650 on lap 1 (have not had anything good for lap 2) and the lap 3 in this run was looking to be at least a low 31.5 which would be my new best lap. My best non-wheelie cut laps are a 31.838 (I think) lap 1 and a 31.655 lap 2. I never thought I'd have an intentional grind here, let alone thinking that I can practically get a 1:34. I think this will be added to a list of time trial goals to come back to and see if I could get that done. It'd be really cool to push for WW Top 10 here as I never had tops on this track before, we'll see. Thanks for watching.
