We finally tackled one of the most important upgrades on our 1964 VW Westfalia… and honestly, it wasn’t optional.
Driving this bus the way it was? Sketchy at best. Between the age, the weight, and the original drum brakes, stopping felt more like a suggestion than a guarantee. So before we could really enjoy this thing (or trust it on the road), it was time for a full disc brake conversion.
What we thought would be a straightforward upgrade turned into its own challenge—fighting old parts, figuring out fitment, and questioning our life choices more than once. But in the end… this might be the upgrade that actually makes this bus usable.
