Ruffian Cars is one of the most inspiring places Henry Catchpole has ever visited. The cars come from the fascinating mind of Chris Ashton who was a computer game designer for much of his life, working on titles such as Evolve and Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2. Now he creates cars such as the incredible Galaxie 500 that we drive in this film.
Such is the attention to aesthetic detail that you might easily mistake the Galaxie for a show pony, designed to cruise to cars and coffee. But this 700bhp monster has real engineering prowess and dynamic ability underneath its camouflaged body. There is a full Ron Sutton race chassis, there are air jacks, there are Penske dampers and it steers like you wouldn’t believe.
As well as ripping some roads in the huge Galaxie with its naturally aspirated V8 and manual gearbox, we also have a look at all the other creations that Ashton and Ruffian Cars have built and are building. There are Mustangs, a Ford GT40, a Plymouth with a Viper V10… they are even working on a replica of the APC from Aliens!
