Driverless vehicles are already operating across Texas, and North Texas is becoming a major hub for the technology.

During a Senate Transportation Committee hearing Tuesday, autonomous trucking companies pointed repeatedly to Lancaster, where companies are developing technology and hauling commercial freight. One industry representative called DFW the “epicenter of autonomous trucking” worldwide.

The growth comes as Texas lawmakers examine whether the state's new autonomous vehicle rules need additional safeguards ahead of the 2027 legislative session, including changes to crash reporting, safety data and enforcement.
