For the first time in 75 years, Denver and Rio Grande Western steam locomotive 340 is operating on former DRGW rails in Colorado. The locomotive was purchased by Knott’s Berry Farm Theme Park owner Walter Knott in 1951 and has now spent most of its life in Southern California. In 2024, Knott’s contracted with the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad to completely rebuild the locomotive. Today, 340 looks as good as ever in a fresh coat of green and black paint. The locomotive will make some test runs and then a few public excursions in early June of 2026 before returning to its current home at Knott’s Berry Farm. #train #knottsberryfarm #steamtrain #colorado
