Drake has filed a second legal claim around his rap battle with Kendrick Lamar. The Ls just keep coming. The rapper is accusing Universal Music Group of defamation as well as iHeartRadio for practicing in payola to help Kendrick's song became a viral hit.

Music journalist Sowmya Krishnamurthy reacts to Drake's new legal filing, how defamation claims don't work in hip hop beefs and analyzes what could be the reason behind Drake's decision to go against his record label Universal Music Group. In 2022, Drake signed a reported $400 million deal to license his music with Republic Records, which is an imprint under Universal Music Group.
