I rather deliberately avoided Australian landscapes in my music, but recently they have crept in. I think seeing more of the southern parts of Oz has helped me connect with the visions that artists were trying to convey of our landscapes and light. These are just not what I experienced 'up north'. Since driving through and now living in places that feel like these Federation-era Australian paintings, I now better understand them. This piece is a fantasy study based on drains dug across the landscape in South Australia (where I now live) to drain agricultural fields. The drains are commonly very clear water with a lively life soundscape attached. The album is not far off. :-)

The picture used is not directly related but conveys some of the feel of the interface between water and land and the life it supports.

Everything you hear is completely synthesized. There are no birds, frogs, strings, drums... it is all painted in sound from nothing using only pure synthesis.
