Dragon Spirit: The New Legend is a vertically scrolling fantasy shooter developed by Now Production and published by Namco for the Famicom in 1989. It was released for the Nintendo Entertainment System in North America by Bandai in 1990.
Serving as a reimagined sequel to Namco’s 1987 arcade game Dragon Spirit, the game follows Prince Lace as he transforms into a powerful dragon and sets out to rescue his kidnapped sister, Princess Iris. Players fly across varied landscapes, battling airborne creatures, attacking enemies on the ground and collecting upgrades that grant additional heads, stronger firepower and special abilities.
The soundtrack was composed and arranged for the NES by Masakatsu Maekawa, with musical roots in Shinji Hosoe’s original Dragon Spirit arcade score. Its energetic melodies, driving rhythms and atmospheric stage themes complement the game’s mixture of heroic fantasy and fast-paced shooting action.
