The original Precure was directed by Daisuke Nishio who was series director overseeing the first 200 episodes of Dragon Ball Z. It's no surprise the DBZ influences showed through in his work, and then that went on to establish a precedent for the rest of the franchise. Precure was the existing Dragon Ball Z successor an entire decade before Dragon Ball Super was announced.
