Cest Kevvie | Drag History Readings ep 6 | Tony Midnite & Gayle Sherman @CestKevvie | Uploaded August 2021 | Updated October 2024, 13 minutes ago.
On today's episode of Drag History Readings, my first new recording, I discuss two influential figures in mid-20th century Chicago drag: Tony Midnite and Gayle Sherman, also known as the burlesque star Alexandra the Great 48. Their stories involve the criminalization of queer identities and discrimination against trans women by the gay community.

*btw, when I’m speaking to “y’all” at the end, chances are I’m not speaking to you directly. I’m specifically calling out those who actively try to keep trans women out of drag. If that’s not you, please don’t take it personally or take offense! If it is you, I hope you listen to this story and can better recognize the place of trans women in the drag community.
