Shortlisted in the Department's 2020-21 ZEISS Photography Competition.

This video combines high-speed footage from various visualisation techniques (schlieren, OH* chemiluminesnce, and planar laser-induced fluorescence of fuel and OH), showing distinct features of the 'birth' of a flame in a cloud of #fuel droplets.

The footage reveals how flame propagation may differ significantly between conventional and #renewable #aviation fuels, depending on the fuel's thermophysical properties and the spray's characteristics.
