Her forthcoming book “Rhetorics of Defiance: Lolita Lebrón’s Anticolonial Action, Representation, and Reverberation” (Ohio State University Press) explores the legacy of Puerto Rican revolutionary Lolita Lebrón. Dr. Soto Vega traces Lebrón’s life and resistance to craft a social movement theory around "rhetorics of defiance" against colonialism and empire. This important work connects past and present struggles against oppression, showing how these rhetorics continue to inspire today.
Founded in 1973 by a coalition of students, faculty, and activists, the Center for Puerto Rican Studies at Hunter College (CENTRO) is the largest university-based research institute, library, and archive dedicated to the Puerto Rican experience in the United States.
