Dr. Fuhrman Cited the Studies. So I Read Them. @vegsource

Last week I put up a video questioning Joel Fuhrman’s longtime claim that healthy vegans are risking dementia and Parkinson’s if they don’t take his DHA supplements.

Well, a couple days later Joel posted a bunch of graphics on Facebook about DHA and the brain, with studies attached. Maybe it was a response to me, maybe not — he didn’t mention me, and I’m not going to claim she was.

Doesn’t matter. What matters is he’s finally citing actual studies. Which is what I asked for in the first place.

So I pulled up every paper he cited and read them. All of them. And folks, I have to tell you, what I found bothered me a lot more than any disagreement about omega-3s ever could.

One example: his graphic tells his followers a finding is about “vegans” and Parkinson’s disease. Open the paper and the researchers attributed it to all vegetarians combined — including people who eat fish. Fish! The single biggest dietary source of the DHA he says vegans are missing.

That’s not interpretation. That’s just not what the paper says.

As you’ll see, it was lacto-ovo vegetarians who have higher risk of Parkinsons, not vegans.

The new video puts his claims on screen right next to the studies, so you don’t have to take my word for anything. Read the words yourself.

Dr. Fuhrman cited studies to support his claim that vegans need DHA supplements to protect their brains. I read them. This video puts his claims next to what the papers actually say — so you can check every one yourself.
