Dr Dilpreet Kaur delivered a talk on z-Classes in Alternating Groups at the School of Arts and Sciences, Ahmedabad University that was organized by the Mathematical and Physical Sciences division. In the talk, Professor Kaur discusses the z-classes of the alternating group and their connection with rational conjugacy classes of the same group.
Let G be a group. Two elements of group G are said to be z-conjugate if their centralisers are conjugate subgroups of G. This defines an equivalence relation on group G and these equivalence classes are called z-classes.
Professor Kaur is an Associate Professor at Indian Institute of Technology, Jodhpur. Her fields of interest include Group Theory, Representation Theory of finite groups, and Quandle Rings.
