In this video, I am waking in downtown San Jose, California a large city in Silicon Valley, a major technology hub in California's Bay Area. But after the major layoffs in the tech industry, street conditions and changes in consumer habits downtown is desolated hardly anybody on the streets and most of the stores, restaurants, banks, coffee shops are closed . I have to warn you this video is very impressive to see what used to be a vibrant downtown , now abandoned

$we lost the Pacifica Pier today The Pacifica Municipal Pier is closed indefinitely following severe, rapidly progressing structural damage that has put the future of the iconic 53-year-old landmark in jeopardy. On June 4, 2026, city engineers discovered significant cracking, separation, and displacement along the concrete walkway near the piers abutment, forcing an immediate public safety shutdown. The Pacifica council officially declared a local emergency. Over the subsequent days, powerful ocean swells caused the primary fracture to widen to nearly a foot. The catastrophic shifting has buckled structural elements and caused the first section of the pier to tilt precariously downward into the surf. Key Impacts of the Structural Failure * Chit Chat Cafe Demolition: The beloved, decades-old eatery sitting at the base of the pier was immediately evacuated. Because the building is actively pulling apart and leaning from the foundational shifts, the city has approved its complete demolition as it is too unsafe to salvage. * Perilous Future & Rebuilding Costs: The 1,140-foot pier is heavily exposed to aggressive South Pacific long-period swells. Following a 2024 storm that required nearly $20 million in repairs, an engineering report had already flagged the structures worsening concrete corrosion. City officials note that securing federal, state, or private funding for an entire rebuild will be incredibly difficult. * Loss to the Fishing Community: Renowned as the only pier in the San Francisco Bay Area offering entirely free fishing and Dungeness crabbing without a required license, the closure has disrupted the livelihoods and social routines of local anglers. Current Safety Restrictions The city has cordoned off the immediate entry point, adjacent sidewalks, and nearby roads. Access is strictly limited to local residents.
