Downfall was a short-lived ska punk and hardcore punk band from the San Francisco Bay Area formed in late 1989 by Tim Armstrong (vocals/guitar), Matt Freeman (bass), Dave Mello (drums), Pat Mello (trombone), and Jason Hammon (trumpet). The group emerged after the breakup of Armstrong and Freeman's previous band, Operation Ivy, and served as a transitional project before they co-founded Rancid in 1991.

The band was active for only three months, performing approximately seven shows at venues like 924 Gilman Street, Robert Eggplant's house, and the Dementia Hauz. Although they recorded a full album titled "Get Ready For Action" in 1989, it was never officially released due to label disputes and Armstrong's increasing commitments with Rancid.
