I have completed the downfeed for the Gingery shaper as I follow book 3 in the series. The downfeed is where the clapper box mounts. It provides the degree of freedom for moving the cutting tool along an angled plane relative to the work table. By varying the rotating head, a dovetail of 60 degrees can be cut. The downfeed crank is advanced between strokes and the cutter takes more material off the work piece.
I gloss over the details associated with mounting the downfeed to the downfeed slide ways. The details are the same as the process I described in part 9 of the lathe project series.
