Kayaking in Michigan is great. It's an even greater experience in the fall when the leaves are changing colors! In this video, my wife and I spend the day kayaking the Dowagiac River near Dowagiac Michigan.
This river is 90% spring fed, and from what I have been told, it is one of only a few rivers in southern Michigan that does not freeze in the winter. Because it is mostly spring fed, the water is very clear and maintains a good stream-flow and consistent temperature throughout the year.
We started by launching from "Doe-Wah-Jack's" livery service located right on the river on M-51 in Dowagiac. For $5/boat you can launch from their site. They offer 2, 4, and 6 hour trips. Car spotting for the 6 hour trip was an additional $20.
This video will give you an idea of what you can expect from this section of the Dowagiac River including all bridge crossings and interesting things to see. We ended our paddle at Arthur Dodd Park on Creek Rd. between Dowagiac and Niles Michigan; a very well-kept park.
