But for millions of Americans, gig work is no longer a side hustle—its how they survive.
Today, some of the largest gig platforms in the United States use sophisticated algorithms that track worker behavior, including how often they accept jobs, how long they stay online, and how urgently they appear to need income. Critics argue these systems are designed to determine the lowest rate a worker will accept—not the true value of their labor.
As more people rely on gig work as a primary source of income, concerns are growing about transparency, fairness, and the growing influence of data-driven wage systems.
And this doesnt stop with gig work.
The same data-driven pricing strategies are increasingly being used to influence rents, consumer prices, and access to services across the economy. Companies can now analyze behavior patterns to predict what people are willing—or forced—to accept.

Waymo, “we the people”, have had it with your non-working autonomous vehicles that have way to many issues to be on the road.
Today lets breakdown 13 issues, each of which should have been enough to get you off public roads.
1. Collisions with gates, chains, and similar barriers
Waymo vehicles were involved in multiple low-speed collisions with gates, chains, and gate-like obstacles that the system failed to properly recognize. This led to a recall affecting about 1,200 vehicles and a software update. NHTSA had investigated a series of such incidents dating from 2022–2024.
2. Two robotaxis crashed into the same towed pickup truck
In December 2023, two separate Waymo vehicles struck the same towed pickup truck in Phoenix within minutes of each other. No injuries occurred, but it became Waymos first formal recall. The issue was attributed to software misjudging the motion of the towing configuration.
3. Collision with a telephone pole
A Waymo vehicle hit a telephone pole in Phoenix after maneuvering around another object. The incident triggered a fleet-wide software recall and update.
4. Driving into or toward flooded roadways
Waymo recalled thousands of vehicles after discovering software could allow robotaxis to enter standing water under some conditions. The concern was potential loss of vehicle control.
5. Passing stopped school buses
A software defect caused Waymo vehicles to proceed past stopped school buses displaying stop signals. Texas officials reported numerous incidents, resulting in another recall and software fix.
6. Construction-zone and traffic-cone problems
Federal investigators reviewed incidents where Waymo vehicles allegedly entered construction zones improperly, interacted incorrectly with traffic-control devices, or failed to respond appropriately to cones and temporary traffic management setups.
7. Wrong-lane and traffic-law concerns
NHTSA examined reports that some Waymo vehicles:
* Drove in the wrong lane
* Made unexpected maneuvers
* violated traffic laws
* Behaved unpredictably around road controls and obstacles
These reports are part of a broader federal safety investigation.
8. Crashes involving stationary objects
Regulators investigated incidents in which Waymo vehicles struck:
* Barriers
* Utility poles
* Chains
* Gates
* Other stationary roadside objects
A recurring concern IS whether the system could reliably detect unusual but visible obstacles.
9. Vehicles getting stuck or causing traffic disruptions
Numerous publicly reported incidents
* Stopping unexpectedly
* Becoming confused by unusual road conditions
* Blocking lanes
* Creating temporary traffic backups
* Struggling around emergency scenes or construction areas
These incidents contribute to regulatory scrutiny even when no collision occurred.
10. Emergency-response interactions
Fire departments and local agencies in several cities have reported occasions where autonomous vehicles, including Waymos, complicated emergency operations by stopping in unexpected places or not responding to emergency personnel directions.
11. Philippine Safety Drivers
In a congressional hearing WAYMO admitted its safety drivers are located in the Philippines.
12. Regulatory investigations
NHTSA has opened a major investigation after receiving reports involving crashes and possible traffic-law violations.
