It's actually VERY hard to "kill" a sourdough starter because it's not one living thing, it's an entire community of yeast and bacteria. Unless you did something like bake it, there is life. Yes, even if there is black liquid or mold. Just pour it off. It will be just fine. Here is what to do: Take a small amount of the sourdough starter and put it in a fresh jar. Feed it. Place it in a warm place. Feed it every 12 hours and watch it thrive! See my sourdough troubleshooting video for more details!
