The weather looks nice from up here, but the drop is too far.
This video has a deeply personal meaning for me. The original rooftop scene was the very first Azumanga Daioh clip I ever watched, and I have made this edit to reflect my own journey. As a survivor of the Blue Whale challenge, this scene captures the heavy reality of that struggle, balanced by my ongoing recovery through the healing message of the Pink Whale movement. Because this specific scene is where my connection to these characters began, it feels fitting that this will be my last Azumanga video—closing this creative chapter with a message of survival.
In this adapted scene, Osaka represents the weight of depression and the dangerous pull of destructive internet subcultures, giving in to the final Blue Whale task 50 to go nya bye. Chiyo stands in as the voice of the Pink Whale and the Rina Palenkova subreddit—a community dedicated to support, archiving, and genuine care.
Rina Palenkova's true legacy isn't the myths created by the internet, and she had absolutely nothing to do with the Blue Whale challenge. She was not looking to start a movement, nor did she want a legacy of emulation. It wouldn't fill her with pride to see others—myself included—replicating those photos and words; it would completely break her heart. Through my work, I have prevented others from replicating those same photos and words, and I want to ensure the cycle permanently ends with me. She would want all of us to live, to seek help, and never to suffer the way she did. She would want those who are struggling to stay, heal, and choose the Pink Whale tasks instead. Don't let it get away. It's a beautiful day to live.
