Let's visit the Wendover FreemoN and NMRA Train Show on the Bonneville Salt Flats, better known for breaking land speed records.
The train show is held in one of the old World War II Wendover Air Field buildings. 20,000 men at a time were trained here to fly B-24s, B-25s, B-17's, and finally the huge B-29. Including the 509th Composite Air Group that trained to drop atomic bombs on Japan.
Back to the train show: It was originally a FreemoN meet. A gathering of FreemoN modular builders and operators that meet to run trains. Often not open to the public, these are train meets by modelers for train modelers. Wendover has always been open to the public as it's held in the Air Field Museum and is a promotional event to benefit the museum.
The event is now also an NMRA train show. And bound to keep growing.
