I really think that one of these hikes would be a great fit for any visit to north Japan!
You can catch a bus from Morioka Station to the summit area of Hachimantai. This site shows where the stop is and has schedules as well: trip8.jp/accesstobus
(The summit resthouse has bathrooms and a little gift shop. It's here: goo.gl/maps/MJYYWRx31PmfCoaP7 )
For Akita Komagatake, the easiest way is to take a bus (or drive) to Alpa Komakusa, here: goo.gl/maps/7NFZpcy6bm4Nt3HL9
You can catch a bus from the nearby Tazawako Station.
From Alpa Komakusa you can take a bus to the 8th Station Lodge: goo.gl/maps/RubUch1E4peCN1cs8
Alternatively, if you have a car or don't mind an expensive taxi, the route from Kunimi Hot Springs is great. It starts here: goo.gl/maps/qTioNXbNCpi1kc4r8
