Nobody outside Hello Games knows what is in the COSMOS update. So instead of guessing, I went through every theory people are betting on and asked one question about each one: if this turns out to be true, what should you have done first?
Eight of them have an answer. Most of the rest need nothing from you at all.

WHERE YOUR SAVE FILES LIVE
Steam on Windows:
C:\Users\YOUR_USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\HelloGames\NMS\st_*.hg
Steam on Mac:
~/Library/Application Support/HelloGames/NMS/st_/
Xbox Game Pass on PC:
C:\Users\YOUR_USERNAME\AppData\Local\Packages\HelloGames.NoMansSky_SOME_LETTERS\SystemAppData\wgs
GOG and Epic:
%AppData%\HelloGames\NMS\DefaultUser
Find that folder and copy it somewhere else before you try any tool, mine included.
MODS, Since Worlds part 2, DISABLEMODS.TXT no longer does anything.
Both paths from the video: Mods folder: \GAMEDATA\MODS
Switch them off here: \Binaries\SETTINGS\GCMODSETTINGS.MXML
Moving the MODS folder somewhere else is safer than switching them off.
