After 32 years on the job, Jerill Vance walked away from the chemical industry and went back to college at the age of 55. It was time to take a chance and pursue his dreams. Jerill Vance is the only person in West Virginia to receive an Associate Degree in Fine Woodworking. He graduated from New River Community College in December 2010. This leap of faith and entrepreneurial spirit resulted in Jerrill's current accomplishments. He is designing and building furniture, has a PBS woodworking show, is growing a YouTube channel, and pursuing opportunities to share/teach the art of woodworking.
Jerrill Vance was born in West Virginia, where he learned carpentry skills early in life from his father and grandfather. At the age of 14, Jerrill was a carpenter's helper. In 1977, Jerrill began working in the chemical industry in research and development. He set up a small woodshop in the basement of the house he built in 1979. He has expanded his woodworking knowledge ever since.
In 1990 Jerrill joined the newly formed Valley Woodworkers of WV, Society of American Period Furniture Makers in 2005 and Mountaineer Woodturners in 2010.
