Don’t FOIL! Visualize.
In this short video, we visualize the classic mnemonic FOIL using the area model. While this model is technically only valid for positive numbers, it provides a better intuition for how to compute products of sums than FOIL, which is limited to the product of two sums. In theory, all of this is just the distributive property repeated a number of times, but that can often be too algebraically boring to track through.
