Enjoyable champion. Very straightforward in terms of her overall capabilities. As with Ahri, some people are going to be bothered that I refer to Diana as an assassin since she can be built as a bruiser as well, but regardless, you're still going to want to play her similar to an assassin in most situations.
Unusually durable. Between her shield and her high base health, she can actually survive better than many assassins, but she lacks the escape tools many of them have.
RECOMMENDED BUILD
I've played her both as a pure Ability Power caster and as a semi-hybrid with attack speed items such as Malady, Gunblade, Rageblade, and Nashor's Tooth. Both work and are genuinely fun, but the Ability Power caster route was more consistently successful for me. My recommendations will be for Ability Power.
Summoner Spells: Either Ghost or Flash, plus Ignite. Smite instead of Ignite if you're jungling.
Runes: Ability Power reds, Armor yellows, Magic Resist blues, Ability Power reds.
Masteries: 21/9/0 with a focus on magic damage bonuses. You can go 21/0/9 if you don't mind losing the defenses, but keep in mind you'll very frequently be in melee range with high damage opponents.
Skills: W Q W E for starting in jungle, otherwise R, Q, W, E, with an early point in E.
ITEMS
You're either going to get merc treads or ninja tabi in most games. However, if you're constantly roaming to pick up kills, using early mobility boots can be a great help in picking up kills without losing much experience.
As far as items, here are the core items (roughly in the order you want them): Catalyst the Protector, then Rod of Ages. Rabadon's Deathcap, Rylai's Crystal Scepter, and Lich Bane. Lich Bane is a huge item for her no matter how you build her, but it does require some Ability Power to be really strong. I also firmly believe in Gunblade just due to it's slow, but this is your decision.
Void Staff for opponents with lots of magic resist, Abyssal Scepter if you need some of your own or they haven't built much magic resist. Athene's Unholy Grail is fantastic for her if you're not getting the blue buff regularly, but it's an expensive diversion from her core assassin items so you'll want to secure the blue when possible.
