Many people know that Gaijin is a discriminatory word that means foreigners in Japanese.
But I don’t want you to be overly sensitive to this word.
“OH NO, I think someone just called me a Gaijin! They must hate me!”
Don’t worry.
There may be some rude Japanese, but not everyone is like that.
First, there is a word called Gaikokujin, which is very similar to Gaijin.
It literally means foreigner, and it doesn’t contain any discriminatory meaning.
However, they sound very close, and some people get hurt mishearing it.
Or some people add a San and say Gaijin-san.
It’s not the most polite way to refer to foreigners, but most people don’t have any negative intentions when they say this word.

The management (filming, editing, etc.) of the new Asayama Ichiden Ryu's English Channel "Let's ask Seki Sensei" is completely my voluntary work. This activity will cease if I cannot pay for the expensive bullet train fare from Kyoto to Ibaraki Prefecture (where the main Dojo is located) and hotel/filming expenses. Please help us spread and preserve this 400-year-old martial art. In return, I will try my best to create the most educational and exciting content about Japanese Kobudo.
