I've been using the Asus Zenfone 9 for well over 30 days and it's hands down my favorite phone out right now, it's also still in my pocket and likely will be until the Zenfone 10 launches. It comes with all the latest high end hardware specs that you'll find in the bigger premium flagship phones but in a smaller package. I don't know how Asus did it, but this is THE small phone to get, especially if you're looking at the Samsung Galaxy S22.
